Salesforce Shield is a tool by salesforce focused on security and compliance.

In short, there are three things:

1. Salesforce Shield Event Monitoring - detailed performance, security, and usage data
2. Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption - Encryption at rest
3. Salesforce Shield Field Audit Trail - for regulatory compliance, internal governance, audit, or customer service (10 years history)
